The sun was out in full force on Monday and Tuesday at Diamond Prospects' 3rd Summer Showcase as 175 players in the 2009, 2010 and 2011 classes were at AC Flora High School to work out for more than 40 college coaches and professional scouts.
DP rolled with the punches for two days. Most notable was when a construction crew and a fleet of 20+ bulldozers blanketed the Falcon baseball facility, greeting our arrival early on Monday morning...and much to our surprise! The bleachers had been yanked out and pipes were being laid around the press box before work halted and the giant Tonka trucks pulled out. Baseball then became the priority of the day. Unfortunately a line had been cut, eliminating power to the concession stand and public address system for the duration of the event but we made due and saw some very good baseball in the process!
Evaluators from all over the Carolina's strolled into the Capitol City looking to deepen their recruiting boards and was treated to a handful of power arms, some projectable bats and was introduced to new names like rising freshmen Andrew Cox, David Hauser and Stephen Windham.
Monday started out like a 100-meter race, began to resemble a marathon, then concluded with one final sprint to beat the neighborhood light and noise ordinance.
The 60's kicked off our day then gave way to the defensive workout, batting practice and bullpens. The top running time was turned in by Lake City's Shane Miles and Gaffney's Tyler Wilson stole the show with a steady flow of 90+ MPH bolts.
All in all it was another very successful event that produced a nice showing of talent and coverage by decision-makers. DP would personally like to thank AC Flora, Andy Hallett and the many who pitched in to pull off another quality showcase.
In the coming week, we will roll out all the info from Columbia beginning with 60 times, POP times and MPH's all the way to top prospect rankings in every aspect of the game! We will also hand out our highly-coveted player and coach awards in a variety of categories. Stay tuned to DP for our wrap-up of the 2008 Summer Showcase...
